The daughter of Herman Abel and Wilhelmina Hinghaus, "Rose" was born and raised on the family farm in St. Louis County, Missouri. The farm belonging to her parents was on Columbia Bottoms Road/Riverview Drive in north County.

Like her older brother, William, and younger sister, Carrie, Rose never married. The 3 lived at home and helped their parents run the farm. After her father died in 1927, Rose's widowed mother, Wilhelmina, managed the farm with help from Rose, William and Carrie.

Her mother died in January of 1938, and then Rose's only brother, William, died suddenly in May of that same year. Rose and Carrie continued to share the family home together in north St. Louis County.

Rose suffered a stroke and was hospitalized for the final 8 days of her life at Christian Hospital. She died there at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 13 days.

She was survived by her sister, Carrie; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins.

In addition to her parents and brother, Rose was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Louise Husemann, Anna Luecke and Minnie Filges.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on the afternoon of 22 Feb 1967 at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church on Trampe Avenue in north St. Louis County.
