George Hogg McIlvaine was born 10 Aug 1834 in Pittsburgh, PA died 1 Jan 1897. For many years he was cashier and later became President of Peoria National Bank. He was the son of Rev. Wm. Brown and Elizabeth Breading McIlvaine. Rev. McIlvaine was for forty years minister of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh.

George H. McIlvaine moved to Peoria in 1854 and married Priscilla McClure in 1857. He had been invited by his uncle, Isaac Walker (married to Sarah Slemmons McIlvaine), who owned Walker & McIlvaine wholesale hardware. Later George joined the bank. He also served as Director of the Peoria Chamber of Commerce, President of the Clearing House, and President of the School Inspectors Board.

George and Priscilla McIlvaine had seven children: William Brown (b 13 Feb 1864), George Herbert, Elizabeth Breading (b 17 May 1858), Albert McClure, Emma (b circa 1867), Priscilla (b circa 1871), and George Hogg (b abt 1877).

Physical disability prevented enlistment, but he was active in organising troops for the field. He was also a member of the pre civil war military organization called The National Blues.
