Mrs. Sherrer grew up in the Sandy Creek Community in Homes County, graduating from Ponce De Leon High School in 1940. She was a devoted wife and mother who created a loving home for her military husband and three daughters from Virginia to Texas as well as in Germany. She was Baptist by faith and a member of East Baptist Church where she was particularly dedicated to the youth ministry.
Mrs. Sherrer is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 63 years Mercer Sherrer, brother Willard Rhodes and sister Cleotra Mae Wolf.
Mrs. Sherrer is survived by her three daughters Gail Russell and husband Winston of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Carol Zarantenello and husband Michael, and Linda Ledford all of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; two brothers Roy Rhodes of Panama City, Florida and Billy Ray Rhodes and wife Pauline of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, one sister Nell Hall of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, seven grandchildren Joseph Russell and wife MaryAnn, Lee Ann Smith, Allen Russell and wife Christy, Gina Powell and husband Tony, Amy Toller and husband Allen, Kimberly Reece and husband David and Kristen Ledford, also survived by twelve great grandchildren.
A time of Visitation was held 6:00~8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue; DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at East Baptist Church at 901 Bay Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435 with Reverend George Chestnut officiating. Burial followed in the Sandy Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Winston Russell, Allen Russell, Allen Toller, David Reece, Mike Zarantenello and Chris Allen.
