Anna Margaret Ross Alexander, 81, of Indianapolis, a native of Lafayette, died in her home Thursday Feb. 16, 1995. She was born in November, 1913, in Lafayette, the daughter of the late Linn Carnahan Ross and Gladys Gould Ross. Her marriage was to John Arthur Alexander Aug. 14, 1935, and he survives.

Mrs. Alexander graduated from Jefferson High School, and received a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in 1935. While at Purdue, she was a student leader and participated in a number of organizations, including Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, was coed editor of the Debris, and was a writer for the Purdue Exponent.

After moving to Indianapolis, Mrs. Alexander organized the first mental health fund drive in Marion County, served on the Marion County Mental Health board for six years, served on the board of Christamore Settlement, and was a former
president of the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center. She also served on the Indianapolis Board of School Commissioners from 1968-1970, served on the Marion County Tax Review Board for three years, was chairwoman for the Indiana State
Symphony fund drive, served 19 years on the Historic Landmarks Foundation.

Mrs. Alexander was president of the Purdue Women of Indianapolis, and was a former president of the Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Association. She was a life member of the Purdue Alumni Association, served on the Purdue President's
Council, and received an honorary doctorate from Purdue in 1986. She was named Woman of the Year by Theta Sigma Phi sorority in 1968, and received the Purdue Alumni Association Citizenship Award in 1984. A member of St.Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, she was a current trustee of the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, David L. Alexander of Lafayette and Steven R. Alexander of Indianapolis.
