Melita Saunders Whiteside, 99, of Paris died Thursday, April 24, 1997, at 3:45 a.m. in Cherry Street Manor. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Monday, April 28, in Evergreen cemetery with Dr. Raymond Armstrong officiating. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m Saturday at First Christian Church with Dr. Armstrong officiating. Named as honorary pallbearers are Charlie Walker, James Anderson, A.L. Brown, Irwin McClanahan, C.R. Sikes and J.W. Harrison.

She was born Dec. 18, 1897 to George T. and Vina Biard Saunders. She was a graduate of Paris High School and a long time member of First Christian Church. She married Dr. G. Lynn Whiteside in 1923. He died in September 1953. She was known as an avid golfer at Paris Golf and Country Club.

Surviving are a nephew and niece, Raymond and Camille Wunsch of Paris; cousins, Charlotte and Pinkie Denman of Dallas; and several other relatives.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother,
Mrs. Joe (Bonnie Saunders) Wunsch,
Sam Jones Saunders,
Mrs. Fred G. (Lillian) Cook,
Mrs. Harvey (Myrtle) Dalton and
Mrs. Roy (Mattie) Johnson.
