Lester Arthur Cook, oldest son of Lewis and Clemmie Cook, was born at Friend, on January 27, 1879. Lester died on December 19, 1961, at the Mary Lanning Memorial hospital in Hastings.
While still a boy he moved with his parents and family to a farm near Edgar. On January 4th, 1905, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Smith. To this union were born four children, Thelma, Vera, Bernice and Maurice.
For the past 25 years, Lester has been a member of the Edgar Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lawrence and Vern , and a son and daughter, Maurice and Bernice.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Thelma (Mrs. Irvin Essinger) of Superior and Vera (Mrs. Benette Pearson) of Edgar; four brothers, Lewis of Berwyn; Ivan of Caldwell, Kansas; Glen of Roseville, Calif; and Melvin of Boise, Ida.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruben Brubaker of Emmett, Ida, and Mrs. Faye Cassell of Boise, Ida., three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Methodist Church, with Rev. Delvin Roper officiating.
Mmes Verna Kinnison and Lavina Beck sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Mrs. Robert Mikklesen at the organ.
Pallbearers were, Elmer Shuck, Ervin Branstitre, Joe McReynolds, Vernon Jacobs, Leonard Hill and Gerald Pearson.
Relatives and friends who attended services for Lester Cook were, Mr. and Mrs. Orrant Cook, Imperial; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Cook, Caldwell, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Cook, Berwyn; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Payne, Mrs. Rosalie Pracht, Clyde Cook, Broken Bow; Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Sheets, Nelson; Myrl Cook, Fairfield; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schliep, Clay Center; Mrs. Willard Jones, Fairfield; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zikmund, Superior; Mr. and Mrs. N(?) Nelson, Mrs. Amel Ableback, and Mrs. Curtis Marr of Superior.
Burial was in Edgar under the direction of McGhie Funeral Home.
