Funeral services for Russell Kemp, 21, were held Saturday afternoon from the First Methodist Church, at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. T.M. Johnston.
Russell Kemp was born July 8, 1913 in Bell County near Temple, Texas and died Friday, November 16 in Hollis, Oklahoma, following an operation. He was 21 years, four months and eight days of age at the time of his death.
Having lived in Collingsworth County for the past 18 years and attended the Wellington Schools, he was well known in this section and his passing is mourned by many friends.
Russell finished at Wellington High School with the Class of 1931 and enrolled for the first semester at Decatur Baptist College, Decatur, Texas. In 1932, he again attended during the first semester. In addition to other activities he was business manager of the college football team.
Russell was also a member of the Methodist Church.
He is survived by his father, Arthur Kemp, Brownwood; brother, Norman Kemp of Los Angeles, California; half-brother, Joe Kemp of Coleman; half-sister, Mrs. Owen Freeman of Coleman. Grandmother, Mrs. Della Caldwell, Wellington; uncles and aunts, Tom Caldwell, Charlie Caldwell, Mrs. H. L. Peters, Mrs. W. C. Long, all of Wellington.
Special hymns were , "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," choir; "Nearer My God to Thee," quartet, Aaron Edgar, Jack Henderson, L.J. Campbell and Percy Wells.
Pallbearers were Kelly Pigg, Cliff Campbell, Dale Watkins, Ray Wood, Glenn Anderson and Ples Nichols. Flower bearers: Grace Moore, Patti Lee Watkins, Vivian Wright and Anna Jane Pearson.
Interment was made in the Wellington Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home.
