The Wellington Leader June 29, 1967

Mrs. J. L. Gladney, who had lived in Collingsworth County 54 years, died Friday, June 23 about 6 p.m. in Thomas Nursing Home. She had been in ill health for several years and grew increasingly weaker in recent months.

Upon coming here in 191, Mrs. Gladney and her family settled in the Cottonwood community, where she worked actively for the welfare of that area and for the schools and church.

A number of years ago, she moved into Wellington, and the concern for others which was so much a part of her life continued with her interest in the welfare of her neighbors, and the many kindnesses she did for them.

She was a member of the First Christian Church and worked untiringly in its behalf.

Born in Texas July 26, 1983, Mrs. Gladney was the former Ada Eoff, daughter of Bert and Nancy Allen Beller Eoff. She grew up at Brownwood and was married to John L. Gladney February 9, 1903 at Blanket.

Surviving are three daughters and a son: Mrs. Ozro Bartlett of Wellington; Mrs. Oleta G. Bentley of Kansas City, MO; Mrs. Fred Kummerfield of Moorcroft, WY; and Ross Gladney of Amarillo.

Other survivors are two sisters and a brother: Mrs. W. A. Bishop of Quanah, Mrs. Herbert Kelso of Denver, CO; and Vee Eoff of Blanket. There are 18 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gladney preceded her in death may 10, 1942, and a son, Bert Gladney, died several years ago.
