Burial Services for Mrs. Laura Campbell of Turkey, a former Collingsworth County official, were conducted at West Wellington Cemetery Thursday, August 25 at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Campbell died in Hall County Hospital in Memphis early Wednesday, August 24, after a lengthy illness. She was 77 years of age.

Mrs. Campbell came to Wellington with her husband and children in 1920 and this was her home until 1938, when she moved to Turkey. She again lived here during part of World War II, then at its conclusion returned to Turkey.

She served as county treasurer of Collingsworth County for three terms, 1922 to 1928. Later she owned and operated a dress shop and for a short time the Pullman Café.

In Turkey she was associated with her daughter and son-in-law for a number of years in their department store.

Mrs. Campbell was born Laura Frances Wolfe near Corsicana, January 24, 1889. She moved in a covered wagon at an early age with her parents to a farm near Hollis. On June 25, 1911, she was married to Lester J. Campbell at Hollis. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1936.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and served as worth matron of the Wellington Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In Turkey she was also a charter member of the Nuevo Study Club.

Surviving Mrs. Campbell are a daughter and son; Mrs. Tom Salem of Turkey and Lester Campbell of Memphis; three grandchildren, Chris and Jay Ed Campbell of Memphis and Tim Salem of Turkey; also a brother and sister, C. A. Wolf of Hollis and Mrs. Eula Gambill of Pawhuska, OK.
