Lewis W. Parman, 84, Dies in Hospital

Lewis W. Parman, 84, of 229 Van Duesen St., a retired farmer and beekeeper, died Wednesday afternoon at a Madison hospital.

He was born in Black Earth and moved to Madison in 1906.

When he moved to Madison, it was to a farm adjoining Nakoma on what is known as Piper Rd. His farm was originally 52 acres, but practically all has now been sold, becoming part of the Parman addition to Nakoma.

As recently as 1943, when the government was urging production of beeswax and honey, the veteran beekeeper had 14 colonies of honey-gatherers. He at one time had as high as 80 colonies. He became interested in bees in 1884.

Mr. Parman was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Melvin and Clayton, both of Madison and Russell of Los Angeles; one brother, E. A. Parman, Prairie du Sac; two sisters, Mrs. Almeda Heydon, Mazomanie and Mrs. Elizabeth Drake, Black Earth; 13 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

The body was taken to the Frautschi Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Bernard Bartel, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mazomanie.
