This sounds like William P. Poff, born about 1832 in Virginia, died 03 Dec 1889 at Council Grove. He married Elizabeth Girton (my great grand aunt) 13 Sep 1855 in Van Buren Township, Clay Couty, Indiana.

They had a great grandson Clyde Poff born about 1912
