"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." ~ Matthew 5:9, Holy Scriptures, NRSV Catholic Edition

★☆★ Korean War Veteran ★☆★
United States Air Force
Police Officer

In 1966, Waverly Brown was hired as the first African American of Nyack Police Department in New York.
Officer Brown and Sergeant Edward O'Grady were shot and killed by heavily armed members of the domestic terrorist group, the Weather Underground. Officer Brown was killed almost instantly. Sgt O'Grady managed to fire all six shots from his service revolver, but was hit multiple times by M16 fire. Ninety minutes later, he died on a hospital operating table.
The suspects were involved in the infamous 1981 Brinks armored truck robbery of over a million dollars. They had just murdered one Brinks guard and wounded two others.
The incident drew national media attention, leading to the arrests of many members of the Weather Underground and Black Liberation Army. In 1986 the last suspect, the ringleader of the robbery, was arrested.
Officer Brown was survived by his mother and three children, all of whom served in the Air Force as their father had. One son followed in his father's law enforcement footsteps as well, joining the United States Postal Police.

Much appreciation to Eamonn for transferring Officer Brown's memorial over to me when I sponsored the memorial ... without a request from me. You're the best!
