Son of Robert and Jessie (Caylor) Fore.

On Jan. 26, 1947, he married Edna Fitzke in Hastings. She died March 10, 2006.

Survivors include his daughters, Marilyn Whitney and her husband, Roland, of Kearney and Patricia Boltz and her husband, John, of Hastings; sister, Mildred Newby of Brewton, Ala.; grandchildren, Daniel Whitney and his wife, Corrina, Beth Whitney, Matthew Boltz, Jennifer Bronson and her husband, Travis, and Kathryn Boltz; and great-granddaughter, Madison Whitney.

He graduated from high school in Flomaton, Ala., in 1940 and later attended the Lincoln School of Commerce. He graduated with a degree in business and accounting.

He entered the U.S. Navy Oct. 17, 1940, and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged Dec. 14, 1946. He was then recalled for active duty during the Korean War and served from Oct. 2, 1951, until Dec. 12, 1952. He received numerous medals and commendations for his service. He later served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

He and Edna made their home in Hastings. In 1950, they moved to Grand Island where he was employed by the Clarke Thomas (Lumber) Co. for 23 years. He was manager of the United Veterans Club from 1970 to 1993.

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Platt Duetsche. He served as junior vice and senior vice commander of Grand Island VFW Post 1347. He served as quartermaster/adjutant in 1973. He served as commander from 1974 to 1977.

He then served as quartermaster/adjutant from 1978 to 1992.

He took over as secretary/treasurer of the United Veterans Club in February 1979. The club was destroyed in the tornadoes of 1980. He was instrumental in helping to get a new United Veterans Club built at 1914 W. Capital Ave. and served as secretary/treasurer and manager.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, two brothers, one sister, four half brothers and two half sisters.
