AUGUSTA - Eleanor Hayford Cunningham died Friday, April 17, 2009, in Phoenix. She was born Dec. 7, 1919, and was the oldest child of Gertrude and Elbert D. Hayford. She graduated from Gardiner High School in the class of 1937.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, David L. Cunningham; and her daughter, Sheila McGuire Likas.
Eleanor was employed by the state of Maine for 32 years. Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to Phoenix, where she volunteered at John C. Lincoln Hospital for 25 years.
Eleanor was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church.
She is survived by brothers and sisters Elbert D. Hayford II, Margaret Dodge, Olive Washburn, Donald Hayford, Janice Perkins and Nancy Hetherington; many nieces and nephews; and special godchild Virginia Stanhope.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Gardiner. (Kennebec Journal 4/21/2009)
