Walter E. Aalberg, 70, formerly of Caldwell, died on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 at his home in Otto, N.C.

Mr. Aalberg was graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in 1957 and went on to complete his training as a police officer from the Essex County Police Academy.

He then joined the Caldwell Police Department where he worked as a patrolman until 1967. He continued his career in law enforcement for the next 20 years at the Winter Park Police Department in Winter Park, Fla.

Mr. Aalberg rose to the rank of sergeant and was a specialist in traffic homicide investigation before retiring in 1987 to North Carolina.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jan and Lee Aalberg; and his wife, Nancy Ori Aalberg.

Mr. Aalberg is survived by his daughter, Gay Wasileski of New Jersey; his son Jon Aalberg of Arizona; his brothers, Kris Aalberg of Florida and George Aalberg of South Carolina; his three grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were private. Arrangements were by the Macon Funeral Home in Franklin, N.C.
