A William East death notice can be found in records at Huntsville, AL. 'Central Library' which also puts his final resting place in an area known as the East Cemetery in Madison County. The site of this cemetery is said to have been at the south end of Rainbow Drive--the old mountain road which ended on the top side of the mountain. There is a cul-de-sac there now, which probably covers much of the old area of the East Cemetery.
Records obtained by Mr. Percy Keel from a Mr. Joe Brewer circa late 1990's--and from a list grave transcriptions Mr. John Rankin ascertained from research of list of grave transcriptions done by Ms. Pauline Jones Gandrud circa 1920--we know listed some eight (8) individuals interred there. Mr. Brewer also told Mr. Keel that the East Cemetery existed well into the late 1950's,early 1960s, but eventually was abandoned and the gravestones removed or destroyed by persons unknown.
The people listed herein are believed to be interred East Cemetery, but no gravestones mark their final resting place; today no grave "impressions" can be seen there either. The location of the East Cemetery today is now in the city limits of Madison, a municipality which became it's own entity back in 1998.
