Joseph Arnie Glawson, 88, of Tuscumbia, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, at his home. He was born in Iberia on September 19, 1921, son of the late Joseph Ulmer and Sadie Belle (Aust) Glawson. On December 7, 1941, in the Eldon Methodist Church, Joseph married Eleanor Faith Huff of Owensville, who survives at the home. Joseph and Eleanor celebrated 68 years of marriage this past December.

He attended Richland High School until his senior year and then moved to Belle, Missouri, where he graduated in 1939. Joseph was baptized in 1931 in the Richland Methodist Church and redicated his Christian life in 1956 in the Mt. Zion Christian Church. He was a dedicated Christian who faithfully served his church in the Choir, Sunday School Teacher, and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School for the United Methodist Church of Iberia. Joseph served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He trained in California at Camp Roberts and was sent to the South Pacific with the 321st Regiment, Co. C., 81st Division from November 1943 to January 1946. He saw combat on Angar, Poli Anna Islands, Pelileu, Papua New Gunia, Marshall Islands, Marianna Islands, Leyte in the Philippines, and ended his tour in Japan with the Occupation of Honshu in the northern part of Japan. He earned the Combat Infantry badge, Expert Rifle Badge, Occupation of Japan Ribbon, Philippines Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and three Bronze Stars. Joseph was also a member of the Iberia Masonic Lodge 410 AF & AM, Shrine Mason 32 Degree, Scottish Right, Lions Club, Crocker VFW, and Past Worthy Patron of Iberia Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Eleanor Glawson; four children, Joseph Paul Glawson and wife Karen of Richland, Susan Gwen Neal and husband Tom of Linn Creek, Alan David Glawson and wife Sherry of Tuscumbia, and Keith Arnie Glawson and wife Susan LeAnn of Tuscumbia; ten grandchildren, Sherry Jo, Christy Michelle, Jennifer Suzanne, Joseph Matthew, Jana Elaine, Ryan Thomas, Brandi Jo, William Joseph, Bethanie Jolyne, and Abigail Elaine; 17 great-grandchildren, three nieces; one nephew; and one brother-in-law, Eugene Scoles of Eugene, Oregan.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Freeda Eckman, Wilma Glawson, and Helen Scoles, and one grandson, Robert Eugene Glawson.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Charlie Worstell will officiate. Interment with military honors under the direction of the Iberia VFW Post 6167 and American Legion Post 105 will be in Iberia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m., on Wednesday, March 10, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Veterans Administration or the American heart Association.
