Warden Lincoln was a son of Thomas Lincoln (1806-1849) and Sarah Weathers. His siblings were:
Rachel (1828-1907)
Benjamin (1830-?)
Mordecai (1832-?)
Jacob (1834-?)
George Washington (1835-?)
Joseph (1841-1918)
William (1845-?)
James (1848-?)

His grandfather was Josiah Lincoln, making him President Lincoln's first cousin, one generation removed.

Warden volunteered to fight for the Union on June 9, 1863. On September 6, 1863, he became a private in Company E, 117th Infantry Regiment Indiana, and he was mustered out on February 25, 1864 in Indianapolis. Unfortunately, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war at Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. In all, Warden served the Union for six months.

On April 20, 1865, Warden married Rachel Ann Herbaugh, daughter of Catharine Rosenbarger and Judge Herbaugh. They had at least ten children together:

Sarah Catharine (1868-1887)
Philip Henry (1869-1932)
Charles (1872-1955)
William A. (1876-1953)
Margaret E. (1879-?)
