Charles Arthur Rackley was born on February 16, 1916, and went home to be with the Lord on December 11, 2008. He was also preceded by his parents, Edgar A. and Nellie S. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at College Acres Baptist Church, 702 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC, with the Reverend Andy Ickes officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service time at the church.

Charles, affectionately known as "Charlie" was a master carpenter who walked daily with the master carpenter, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Charlie lived his faith daily and passed on a spiritual legacy to his children and grandchildren. Charlie loved the outdoors, fishing and gardening, and could fix anything that was broken. To his children and grandchildren he was always bigger than life, a model of love, compassion, wisdom and integrity. It is impossible to sum up such an exemplary life of 92 years-long to some, but too short to those who knew him and loved him. A truly gifted and loving man, he was devoted to his Lord, to his beautiful wife and to his children, extended family and friends. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and visiting him in the house that Charlie built and hearing his enduring expression of "ma-am?"

We love you Dad. We'll miss you but look forward to spending an eternity of Christmas's together. Out of sight but forever in our hearts, Merry Christmas Dad!

The family extends their gratitude for the excellent and compassionate care given to their father by Lower Cape Fear Hospice and especially to his devoted caregivers, Mahonna McDonald, Barbara Thimms and Rhonda Sansbury.
