Herbert J. Barnes;

Kaysville - Herbert J. Barnes 94, of Kaysville, Itah prominent business and civic leader, died Thursday, January 15, 1981.

Born April 16, 1886, in Kaysville, Utah. A son of John G.M. and Miriam McFerson Barnes. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1906,, with a degree in Engineering. He served an LDS Mission to England from 1907-1909. On May 2, 1920, he married Eva Lund, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, she later passed away in 1959. Life-long resident of Kaysville, he worked for a short time for the Utah Power and Light Co., manager of Kaysville Canning Corp. for many years. He served as President of the Utah Canners Association in 1929 and 1931. President of the Utah Manufacturers Assoc. in 1949. President of the National Canners Accociation in 1951, President of the Davis and Weber Canal Co. for many years. He was on the Board of Directors of several companies including: John R. Barnes , Co., Barnes Banking Co..

Survivors: one son, Canute Barnes, Pullman, Washington: pme daughter, Mrs. Joel (Barbara) Gillespie, Raleigh, North Carolina six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; also surviving are three brothers, Keith Barnes, Kaysville; Shirley Barnes, Los Angeles; Maurice Barnes, Salt Lake City. Funeral service will be held Thesday, January 20, 1981, at 12:00 noon, at the Lindquist-Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main, Kaysville Utah. Friends may call at the Mortuary Monday, 7-9 p.m., and Tursday, one hour prior to services. Interment, Kaysvill-Layton Memorial Park.
