Frances Elizabeth Satterwhite was born on 1 October 1806 in Abbeville County, South Carolina, to Drury Satterwhite and Nancy Poole. She married William Leonidis Gary on 1 November 1824, in Stony Point, South Carolina. Their children were Thomas Pickens, Newton, Ann Eliza, and Frances Rebecca Gary. In 1860, Frances appeared alone on the US Census in Macon County, Alabama, living next door to her youngest daughter. Frances Satterwhite Gary died, 10 April 1888, aged 81, in Tuskegee, Alabama, and was buried at Tuskegee City Cemetery.
