LINCOLN COUNTY - Max Buchanan, 77, of Lincoln County, formerly of Franklin, passed away March 1, 2010.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late James Ellis Buchanan and Maude Welch Buchanan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Buchanan; a brother, Kenneth Buchanan and step mother, Ruby Buchanan. Max was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Thread Inc. He was an active member of Independent Baptist Tabernacle Church in Dallas, NC serving as deacon and school board chairman since 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Juanita Guffey Buchanan; three daughters, Nancy Tafur and husband Julian of Mount Holly, NC, Tina Caldwell and husband Junior of Kings Mountain, NC and Anna Brown and husband Dexter of Gastonia, NC; three sisters, Pearl Campbell, Thelma Morrison Smith and Annie Mae Brabson and husband Harry all of Franklin; three brothers, Wade Buchanan and wife Alice of Fort Mills, SC, Branch Buchanan and wife Evelyn and Raleigh Buchanan and wife Maggie all of Franklin; 4 grandchildren, Julian Antonio Tafur and wife Annika, Carlos Maxwell Tafur, Melissa Ann Bright and husband Tommy and Brandon Dexter Brown; 4 great grandchildren, Ethan Caldwell Bright, Lillie Marie Bright, Luana Tafur and Ivana Tafur; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Independent Baptist Tabernacle Church. The Rev. Ralph Carver will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church.

Deacons of the church will serve as pallbearers.
Macon Funeral Home, Franklin, N.C. is in charge of the arrangements.

Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel is handling local arrangements.
