Nell Jones Hodges, daughter of George Tillman Jones and Henrietta Rhodes Jones, was born in Dale County, Ariton, Ala. Oct. 9, 1920. She died at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. Aug. 2, 1999 after a lengthy cardio/pulmonary illness. Mrs. Hodges lived for many years in Miami, Fla. where she and her husband Charles relocated after World War II. During the war she worked as a civilian for the U.S. Army-Air Corps. She and Charles married Aug. 20, 1942 in Montgomery, Ala. After the war they worked for many years together to build the Miami Burglar Alarm Co., Inc. into one of the largest and most successful burglar and fire alarm companies in the southeastern United States. They sold the business in 1972 to Wells Fargo, Inc. and retired. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles G. Hodges, Jr., Atlanta; daughters, Beverly H. Kitchin and husband, William of Pylesville, Md.; Susan Zdencanovic and husband, John, of Atlanta; sons Rev. Richard B. Hodges and wife, Judy of Blair, S.C.: George T. Hodges, and wife, Janet of Birmingham; and sister Ann Flannagan of Anniston, Ala. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sisters Bonnie Jones Hollis and Willie Lee Blackmon. A private family viewing was held at 10 a.m., Aug. 4, 1999 at H. M. Patterson's Arlington Chapel in Sandy Springs, Ga. followed by interment services in the Chapel of the Sunrise Mausoleum at Arlington Cemetery at 11 a.m. Mrs. Hodges was entombed adjacent to her first son, Capt. Charles G. Hodges, III, USAF, who died of non-combat-related injuries while serving in Vietnam in May 1971. Her funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steve Huntley of Peachtree Presbyterian Church aided by the Rev. Richard B. Hodges of the Salem Presbyterian Church, Blair, S.C. The family thanks the physicians and staff of Piedmont Hospital who were involved in her care and worked so hard to make her comfortable. H. M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, Sandy Springs, Ga. was of service to the Hodges family.
