Mattie was the daughter of Rev John G Swinney & Sarah Ann Matthews. She married John Clark & they had 9 children.

OLDEST LIVING MEMBER N. RIVER BAPTIST CHURCH

Mrs. J. W. Hawkins of Leonard, who recently observed her seventy-seventh birthday, is the oldest living member of the North River Baptist Church.

She was born Jan. 7, 1859, a daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. J. S. (sic) Swinney. Her maiden name was Martha Swinney. On Feb. 26, 1876 she was married to John Clark and all of the nine children are living: Mrs. Lillian Botkin of Shelbina, Robert Clark of Cherry Box, Samuel Clark of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Dee Clark of Macon, Roy Clark of Clarence, William Clark of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Lola Vickers of Hagers Grove, Mrs. Leona Winget of Riverside, Calif., and Mrs. Vada Bell McMaster of Shelbyville. Mr. Clark died Sept. 21, 1912.

She was married Feb. 24, 1915 to J. W. Hawkins, who died Nov. 21, 1929.

Mrs. Hawkins has lived in Shelby county most of her life, where she is well-known.
