A.L. Sorrells, 81, a resident of the Texas-Oklahoma state line area for many years, died Tuesday, August 26, at 6:59 p.m., a day after he was admitted to Collingsworth General Hospital. He was a retired cattle buyer. Mr. Sorrells brought his family from Knox County to the Shinnery community in 1937, where they lived for many years. Later they made their home at Vinson, and for approximately 20 years had lived in Wellington. Arvie Loyd Sorrells was born March 23, 1899, in Franklin County, the son of Jessie and Ida Mae Jordan Sorrells. He was married to Miss Pearl Miller September 28, 1919, at Reed. She died Sept. 20, 1958. He was married to Mrs. Leota Pierce May 9, 1959, at Rule. For the next two years they operated a cafe at Center Plains, near Kress, then returned to Wellington. Mr. Sorrells was a Baptist.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Leota Sorrells of Wellington; four daughters, Mrs. Adele Ellis of Reed, Mrs. Lillie May Crawford of Vega, Mrs. Juanita Stump of Pampa and Mrs. Sue Grissom of Memphis; four sons: Jess Sorrells of Tulia, A.L. Sorrells, Jr., of Panhandle; Elton Sorrells of Hereford; and Leslie Sorrells of Medford, Oregon; two step-daughters: Mrs. Nadine Burch and Mrs. Ruth Holtman of Los Angeles, Calif., area; four stepsons: Carlton Pierce and Glen Pierce of Old Glory; Billy Joe Muller and Pat Alexander of Rogers; one brother, Elvin Sorrells of Rule; one sister, Mrs. Marie Brothers of Rule; 51 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death, Elmer Sorrells and Bruce Quinn Sorrells, as did two brothers and a sister, Earl and Clyde Sorrells and Mrs, Virlie Thompson.
