CRAB ORCHARD — Johnny Hopkins, 89, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Terrace Nursing and Rehab in Berea, Ky.

Born Nov. 9, 1919, in Garrard County, Ky., he was a son of the late Ewell and Ellen Saylor Hopkins. He lived in Alexandria, Ky., for many years while he was employed as a driver and dock handler for Dixie Ohio Express Co. in Cincinnati. He was a Navy veteran having attended the rank of Seaman First Class. He also was a farmer. He was a member of the First 12 Mile Baptist Church in Alexandria. He was the widower of Thelma Ann manning Hopkins, who preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 1994.

Survivors include four children, Phyllis (Roger) Adams of Crab Orchard, Yvonne (Les) Wolfe of Buford, Ga., and Keith (Nyra) Hopkins and Roy (Sharon) Hopkins of Alexandria; a sister, Eunice Causey of Crab Orchard; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two children, June Martin and John Randall Hopkins; 16 brothers and sisters.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at McKnight Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery.
