Uncle Allen built his own house, and also the second home they lived in. He never sold the first place, choosing to rent it instead, saying "you never knew what was going to happen in the future, and you just might need a place to come home to". They lived next door to his parents on Milledgeville Road. Years later he built the second house on Wise Drive. This was really on the back side of the property of the first house, and faced another street. Uncle Allen took his looks from his mother's side of the family. He and Aunt Julia worked in the King Mill, in Augusta, Ga. They had one son, Aubrey L. Darnell.

Uncle Allen was 88 when he died at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia on Saturday, Jan 22, 2000. The funeral was held at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Burial was in HillCrest Memorial Park.
He was a native of Bamberg, South Carolina, had retired as a texile employee at King Mill. He was given Military deferment during World War ll to make parachutes for the military.
