She was born Sept. 16, 1937 in Rio Grande City, Texas, to the late Adolph and Agnes (Kolaja) Stalmach. Valedictorian of her San Benito, Texas, high school, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Texas, where she received a master's degree in chemistry. She later received a master's degree in physics from the University of Chicago and was working toward a Ph.D. Coming from Chicago, she had been a resident of Sunbury since 1970. She had worked with Ashland Chemical Co., as a product coding specialist, retiring in 1994. For a few years she organized the July 4 parade in Sunbury and was active with the Welcome Wagon, Library Friends and the Big Walnut Historical Society. She enjoyed reading and designing a carriage house and various remodeling projects at home.
She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel M. Schwartz, whom she married Dec. 30, 1963; and a brother, Daniel M. Stalmach, of Fullerton, Ca.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trenton Cemetery, with the Rev. Carol Weiss officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 and Ohio 61, Sunbury.
