"He who careth not from whence he came careth little whither he goeth." - Daniel Webster
This is a quote my father, T'Odon Charles Leshikar attached to the front of one of his family trees. He was passionate about recording names, dates, relationships of family members. At every family reunion he spread out his sheets encouraging everyone to see where they were and make sure the correct spelling, date of birth, marriage and death of every one was included. The last week of his life we spent retyping and entering corrections on all his trees (the numbers are impressive!) and then sent copies to each of his first cousins - including a distant cousin in Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic).
Using these trees, I am trying to track down and source each and every family member as well as add the newer ones. Finding the graves, seeing the headstones, sharing information, showing relationships and from one spot being able to leave a remembrance - my father would have loved websites like Find A Grave.
And then there are the treasures to be found –
This is the inscription from the headstone of my ancestors Josef Jirasek and Rosalie Balcar Jirasek who brought their family from Czechoslovakia to Texas in 1867.
"Here rest, a couple who loved each other,
after a long and arduous journey
through the byways of the world.
Laid here for their eternal sleep.
Completed is your life. Rest in Peace."
Please do not post death certificates on the memorials I have created. I feel strongly that this is not the place for them.
