Arland Franklin Dingus, 74, devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed into eternal rest on Friday, April 10, 2009, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a Christian and a loyal and faithful member of Nash's Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as trustee, Sunday School teacher and in many other capacities.
He was a retired equipment operator for VICC, a United States Army veteran and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed both hunting and fishing, especially coon hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Maggie Dingus; two brothers, Luther Dingus and Clarence Dingus; and a sister, Elizabeth Robinson.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Connie Adkins Dingus of Wise; son and daughter-in-law, Kester and Veneta Dingus of Low Moor, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Deandra and Stephen Jones of Wise; granddaughters, Ann-Delyse Anderson-Hopkins (Jeremiah) of Virginia Beach, Va., Ashlyn Jones and Jordan Dingus; grandsons, Jon Anderson, Dakota Scott and Logan Scott; a brother, Lawrence Dingus of Wise; three sisters, Cecile Dingus, Edna Wyatt and Anna Adams all of Wise; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Arland Dingus will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, with Pastor Jamie Mann officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise. Burial and graveside committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2009, in the Dingus Family Cemetery in Wise.
Arland's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends will meet at 1:20 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nash's Chapel Baptist Church, P.O. Box 2167, Wise, VA 24293.
Sturgill Funeral Home, 1621 Norton Road S.W., Wise, VA 24293 is in charge of arrangements.
