Virgil L. (Brownie) Brown, 84, of Arcadia, Fla., died Jan. 13, 2000.


Born Sept. 8, 1915, in Rockport, W. Va., he moved to this area in 1950 from Charleston, W. Va. He was an automobile mechanic. Mr. Brown worked with the Drake Motor Company and Barnard Buick Company for years, then owned his mechanic business. He was a member of American Legion Post K 11 in Arcadia. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Rockport United Methodist Church in Rockport.


Survivors include his wife, Virginia Brown of Arcadia; daughter, Ruth Ann Smith of Arcadia; grandson, Matthew (DeAnna) Smith of Arcadia; great-granddaughter, Abigail Smith of Arcadia; sister, Bess Stephens of Dunbar, W. Va.; and brother, William Brown of Parkersburg, W. Va.


Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 16 at Ponger-Kays-Grady Funeral Home, Arcadia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 17 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Arcadia.
