This Gray family is not my line. I discovered them while tracing my own Grays. These Grays were Scots from the Worcester/Holden area of Massachusetts. Jonas was the first of them to venture up into Vermont territory. He was a farmer whose farm was just a few miles from this tiny family cemetery. Jonas' name is in the Proprietor's Book 1782 for Townshend, VT. He was a major landowner for many years. In 1803 he sold most of his holdings to his son and heir Jonas Jr. He died the next year.

Central Athens is close by, but this cemetery is very rural and difficult to find. It sits along the old road to Townshend Vt. Take Route 35 out of Townshend towards Athens. Turn right on Deer Valley Road and watch for the cemetery sign. It is 1-2 miles down this turnoff and on the right side of the road.
