James R. Sigler, 97 of Fairfax, Virginia (formerly of Washington, DC and Shoreham Beach, Maryland) died on January 22, 2013 at Reston Hospital in Reston, Virginia. Mr. Sigler was born on February 2, 1915 in Luray, Virginia, the youngest of five children of the late Chester C. Sigler and Mary Alice Smeltzer.

He graduated from Luray High School in 1934. He completed his education in Washington, DC by earning a Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Business Administration from Benjamin Franklin University and George Washington University.

Mr. Sigler retired from the Maritime Administration in 1988, an agency of the U.S. Department of Transportation, after 54 year of Federal Service. He began his government career in 1934 with the then U.S. Maritime Commission in Washington, DC. During his long government career, Mr. Sigler specialized in the field of stream ship accounting and financial management, advancing to executive positions in the Maritime Administration and receiving awards for outstanding and meritorious service.

During World War II he served honorably in the U.S. Navy, Office of Naval Intelligence.

Mr. Sigler traveled extensively and spent his weekends at his summer home at Shoreham Beach, Maryland, on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. In additional to traveling, he enjoyed attending National Symphony Orchestra Concerts on a regular basis for many years. After his retirement he spent more time at his summer home in Shoreham Beach, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, and in March 2007 moved to Fairfax County, Virginia. There are no immediate survivors. Graveside services and interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Luray Virginia sometime in April.
