The Edens Madden Massacre
at the home of John Edens where his wife and some of his children were killed along with Murchisons, W.T. Sadler's wife and daughter. Numerous people lost their lives the night of 18 Oct, 1838.
In one of the neighboring houses on the other side of San Pedro Creek, another group of women and children had gathered in the John Grigsby, Jr. house this night. Young RUTH ANN GRIGSBY, sister to one of Sadler's Rangers, and her family plainly heard the war whoops of the Indians, and the terrified screams of women and children. Many of those in the Grigsby home fled barefooted into the cover of the woods in the creek bottom where they hid all night.
