Benton Advocate, Benton Wisconsin,
SUDDEN DEATH OF C. A. SMYTHE
C. A. Smythe age 69 died Wednesday morning at 5:30 of heart failure. He had not been well for some time but his death was entirely unexpected.

Before coming to town to reside the deceased had lived on his farm south of Benton for many years. He was widely known in southwestern Wisconsin and had served for several years on the Town Board.

Besides a wife he leaves nine children; eva, John, Will, Verne, Albert, Genevieve, Charles, Byron and Foster. He also leaves two sisters: Mrs. Eva Brown of Detroit, Mrs Ed. Strawbridge of Penascola, Florida and one brother John Smythe of Spokane.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the P.M. Church, Rev. Magee officiating.

The following from out of town are here to attend the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smythe Jr., of Madison, Mrs. Eva Brown and Byron Smythe of Detroit, Forrest Carter, of Waterloo, Iowa, Eve Wade of Chicago.

****************
Could you please add that his death record states he was born in 1852, not 1853. If he was truly 69 years old at the time of his death(as stated in his obituary), then he must
have born in 1852. This is a discrepancy that I think people should know about before taking the 1853 year as fact. When I weigh the available evidence I conclude that 1852 is the most supported fact but I suppose it's up to each individual to resolve this discrepancy the best way they see fit.
