Simeon Buchanan was living in Grayson County, Kentucky by 1834 when he carved that date over the door of his home there on property he purchased from the heirs of Robert Preston, who is buried there. He is shown as a Baptist Clergyman in the 1850 Census of Grayson County with his real estate valued at $1200.

Simeon Buchanan married first wife Amelia Spaulding on 30 Aug 1808 in Woodford County, Kentucky (date of bond). She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Unknown) Spaulding. She was born about 1793 in Woodford County, and died sometime between 1819 - 1834.

She was buried in Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church at Duff, Grayson County, Kentucky
