Died on the Prairie
"Grandma" Phillips, an aged lady who lived with her son near Burdett, was found dead on the prairie ten miles from home by a searching party last Friday evening.
Mrs. Phillips left the residence of her son on Wednesday in a fit of anger, but no notice was taken of the occurrence as she had several times before left home in the same manner, but always returned. No uneasiness was felt for her safety until Thursday, when a number of neighbors organized themselves into a searching party and proceeded to scour the country for tidings of the missing woman. It was not, however, till almost dark Friday evening that the dead body was found lying on a side hill ten miles from home. The cause of her death is a mystery. No marks of violence were found on her person, and it is not probable that she was murdered. It is generally believed that she either committed suicide or died from exposure and grief. She was eighty years old. The remains were buried at Burdett, Saturday.
