Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2003 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Mary, Mother of the Church, Catholic Church for Vernon Q. Sibille, age 75 who died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at 2:15 AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.
Interment will be in the Fountain Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Robie Robichaux, JCL, Pastor, St. Mary Catholic Church will the the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the services. Con-Celebrants will be Rev. O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice and the Rev. Bryce Sibley, Pastor, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parks. Jan Judice, accompanied on the organ by Deborah Duhon, will sing for the services, "On Eagles' Wings", "My Shepherd Is The Lord", "Ave Maria", "The Lord's Prayer", "Be Not Afraid", and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". Giftbearers will be his children and his granddaughter, Jennifer Sibille, and his grandson, Brian Sibille will be Acolyte. Christine Adams and Nikki Broussard will be Lectors.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Diane Lastrapes Sibille, of Lafayette; one daughter, Kay Richard and her husband Terry, of Lafayette; thrree sons, V. Mark Sibille, Keith Sibille and his wife, Mary and Gregg A. Sibille, all of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Josh and Matt Sibille, Jennifer, Andrew and Brian Sibille, and Hanna Marie Richard; one sister, Romayne Sibille Provost of Sunset; and one brother-in-law, Dud Lastrapes of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland R. Sibille, Sr. and Martha Lavergne Sibille; one sister, Yvonne Sibille Guidry; and one brother Roland R. Sibille, Jr.
A native of Sunset and a resident of Lafayette since 1951, Mr. Sibille was a veteran of military service having served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in the Philipines.
Known to his friends as "Muscles" in his younger days, Mr. Sibille was a graduate of Sunset High School and was a 1950 graduate of SLI where he was a member of the SLI band.
Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was owner and co-founder of Supreme Contractors and was formerly employed as an engineer with SOLOCO until 1974 and by Superior Oil Company until 1966.
Mr. Sibille was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Community where he served on the first Parish Council and was a member of the Usher's Society.
He was a member and past President of the Petroleum Club of Lafayette, was a former member of the Board of directors of LAGCOE and was a member of the 100 Club. Mr. Sibille was a lifetime member and first President of Crime Stoppers, was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Sibille's name may be made to the Miles Perret Center, 2130 Kaliste Saloom Road, Lafayette, LA . 70508 or to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Attn: Memorial Department, Memphis, TN, 38015.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Joseph Eugene Brierre and his staff, with special recognition to Kylee. A special thanks also to the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center ER and ICU units, with special recognition to Brett Moreau and Matt Desormeaux.
A Scripture Wake Service will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home by the Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Judice.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM Wednesday and from 8:00 AM until time of services Thursday.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Josh, Matt and Andrew Sibille, his brother-in-law, Dud Lastrapes, his son-in-law, Terry Richard and his godchild Iggy Castille. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Balser, Dan Shamburger, Henry Perret, Sr., Bill Stonecipher, McKinley Simmons, Ted Guidry and his Petroleum Club morning friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Inc. of Lafayette, 234-2311.
