Last Rites For Charles Garner Held March 19

Former Resident of Calvin Succumbs at Home of His Daughter

Last rites for Charles Garner, 85 years of age, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. P. Long, in Winnfield Thursday morning, March 18th at 5 o'clock with the Rev. G. A. Morgan, Methodist pastor, Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian minister, and Rev. B. C. Land, Baptist minister, officiating.

Interment was made in the Teagle Cemetery, several miles west of town under the direction of the Walsh Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were J. E. Carter, W. T. Norman, H. E. Machen, Aubrey Corbitt, L. F. Morrison, and D. E. Sikes.

Mr. Garner and his wife came to Louisiana from Alabama where he settled in Winn Parish.

Charles Garner is the son of Levy and Mary Matilda Copeland Garner of Butler County, Alabama. After the death of his father, Charles left Alabama with his mother, brother Nathan, and his sister Elizabeth Louise and her husband Henry C. Treadaway and their family. They were headed for Texas, ultimately Oklahoma. But, when they arrived in Winn Parish, Charles determined he would stay there and so he did for the rest of his life. His siblings (along with Nathan and Elizabeth) are: Martha Jane, Sarah, Evelyn, Victoria, Katherine and Stephen W. B. Garner.
