Calvin Hardin Barbee (1867-1953) married Della Mae Rayburn (1872-1959) in a formal wedding ceremony in the Methodist Episcopal Church, March 24, 1896. Calvin H. was a farmer and established a home about one-half mile west of Lovelady on what is now the Milliken place. This home was where all of his children were born and lived until he moved into town and bought the Clyde Mainer home across from the school house. He was active in church affairs at this time, serving several different times as Church Superintendent. In 1910 he bought cotton and managed his farm on a sharecrop basis. He was later elected Justice of the Peace, an office he held until a few years before his death. His wife, Della Mae Rayburn Barbee, will be remembered for her art work. She painted many oil paintings, selling some and giving others as gifts to those she loved.
Calvin and Della's children were Robbie Barbee Stevenson, William Curtis, and Lois Barbee Peery. Robbie Lucille (1897-1966) attended schools in Lovelady and Huntsville and before her marriage she taught school in the Creek and Ash Communities. Robbie married Stroud Stevenson on December 9, 1917, in Lovelady. Stroud was engaged in farming and ranching; he was a member of the Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge. To this family union was born three children-Louis Stroud, Jr., Robert Lloyd and Mary Lois. Louis married Marcia Gallagher of Fort Worth. They resided in San Antonio where their daughter, Marcia Ellen, was born. Louis was killed in a plane crash in 1951. Robert Lloyd graduated from TX A & M and later married Frances Whitmore of Houston; they have two sons, Robert Lloyd, Jr., and Gary Rayburn. Mary Lois graduated from Lovelady High School, received a B.A. degree from TX Women's University in Denton and taught school in LaPorte and Pasadena. Mary Lois married Raymond L. Harless of Soper, Oklahoma; their children are Louis Raymond and Sharon Annette.
Robbie served her community in many ways during her lifetime. She was a reporter for various papers in the County and worked for the Crockett Courier about 30 years. Being civic minded she held offices in various clubs and took a major lead in the Methodist "Church as long as she lived. Lois Barbee Peery graduated from Lovelady High School and Lon Morris College and received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from East TX State University. She married Reagan Peery, owner of Peery's Hardware store in Kemp, TX, where she has taught school for many years. They have one daughter, Frances, a graduate of North TX State University, who now lives in Dallas.
