Mr. Gantenbein was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Richland County, the son of Charles and Bessie (Varner) Gantenbein.
He married his wife Catherine May 17, 1943, in Olney, and she survives.
He was a laborer for oil production.
Other survivors include two sons, Bernard, Jr., Carbondale; and Robert, Olney; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (Cathy) King, US Naval Base, Millington, Tenn.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Edith Thompson, Calumet; and Lillian Gantenbein, Anna; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
