"Alfred Ott Somerville died at his home some five miles northwest of Milan at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon, August 16, 1927, of typhoid fever, aged 76 years, four months and eight days. He had been in failing health for the past several weeks and his ailment finally developed into typhoid fever which resulted as stated above.

Mr. Somerville was born in Jackson county, West Virginia, March 8, 1851. He came to Missouri at an early day and has spent his mature life in Sullivan county. He located on a farm and was one of the county's successful farmers.

He was a man who gave close attention to his business affairs and took an active interest in the progress, development and upbuilding of his community. He gave due consideration to public questions before endorsing them but if convinced that a move was for the public good, he endorsed and supported it.

By his death his family is bereft of a kind and devoted husband and father and the county has sustained the loss of a good citizen. He is survived by his widow and two children, Ruth and Samuel.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock tomorrow afternoon (Friday) at the M. E. church, South, conducted by Rev. C. L. Dorris, after which the remains will be laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery." The Milan Republican (Milan, Missouri), August 18, 1927
