Death of Henry Van Dorn

Henry Van Dorn, an old resident of the upper Napa valley, died at his home, near St. Helena, Friday night September 1st, of paralysis.

Deceased was born in Covington, Indiana, October 21, 1829, and had he lived until next month would have been 70 years of age. He came across the plains by ox team in 1850.

His first employment was to join the relief party to go and meet immigrants with supplies, and it was said that he met his first wife in 1852, whom he afterward married in 1853, she dying in 1872.

After his first marriage he teamed to the mountains, and after that was engaged in farming in Colusa, Yuba and Sutter counties. He left that vocation in 1869 and went to San Francisco where he worked at his trade of carpentering.

His second marriage was in November 20, 1873.

He came to Napa county seventeen years ago. He was always a loving and kind husband and father.

There are left to mourn his loss a wife and ten children. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the family residence, Rev. James Mitchell officiating.
