Stanley Ray Nelson, 65, of Sterling died Monday, Oct.30, 2000 at his home after a long battle with A.L.S. Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at the funeral home with Martin Wilson and Harlan Hamilton officiating.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Nelson was born on March 30, 1935 to John and Clara (Copley) Nelson. Stan was born on the family farm west of Peetz. He attended Peetz schools, graduating from high school in 1953.
On April 23, 1955 he married Lorna Wagner in Sterling. They have owned and operated Sterling Milk Company since 1960. Stan was also involved in cattle feeding in the 1970s and 1980s. Stan loved spending time with his family, and was always involved in his children's and grandchildren's activities.He enjoyed many hobbies including flying, bowling, golfing, motorcycle touring and square dancing. More recently, Stan and Lorna have enjoyed spending the winters with their many friends in Arizona.
Stan was a member of the Flying Farmers, Retreads Motorcycle Club, Circle 8 Square Dance Club and the Sterling Noon Lion's Club.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Lorna Nelson of Sterling.; his mother, Clara Nelson of Fort Morgan; one daughter, Lanette Farnik and husband Steve of New Raymer; two sons, Dr. Daniel Nelson and wife Peggie of Car roliton, Ga., and David Nelson and wife Brenda of Sterling; two sisters, Betty Lockhart and husband Mel of Sterling, and Connie Hawes and husband Dennis of Fort Morgan; six brothers, John Nelson and wife Pauline of Sterling, Paul Nelson and wife Dallas of Colorado Springs, Lloyd Nelson and wife Arlee of Levelland, Texas, Jim Nelson and wife Leona of Gree ley, Arlo Nelson and wife Jody of Albuquerque, N.M., and Larry Nelson and wife Esther of Peetz; one sister-in-law, LaVonne Bilyeu and husband Don of Sterling; and 10 grand children, Spencer, Todd, Mitchell, Vanessa and Jared Farnik of New Raymer, Cody and Suzanne Nelson of Georgia, Matt Williams and Baylee and Rylee Nelson all of Sterling.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Nelson in 1959 and one brother, Lyman Nelson in 1938.
