Mary Elizabeth "Eliza" McMullen/Bishop is the daughter of Cullen Joseph McMullen and Abigail Whitehead. She was born in abt. 1818 in NC. We think probably in Orange Co. NC but are not really sure. Cullen and Abigail married on 21 Dec 1816 in Halifax, Halifax Co. NC. We know by the census that this family moved to Charleston, Tallahatchie Co. MS around 1843 but by then all of Abigail and Cullen's children were born in Carroll Co. TN.
Mary married James Wiley Bishop on 29 Oct 1840 in Carroll Co. TN per the early marriage index of TN. They were blessed with 12 children before "Wiley" died on 11 Nov 1887 in Grant Co. NM. Mary E. Bishop is enumerated on the 1900 census in San Antonio, Bexar Co. TX with her daughter Mary Elnora Bishop-Hill and her husband Josiah "Joe" Hill and their family. Clearly states she was born in July 1818 that she is a widow and the daughter below is Mattie Rich who is also a widow at that time. Mattie Abigail Bishop-Rich is the last child born to Eliza and Wiley she married J.M. Rich on 2 March 1884 in Hill Co. TX. And I haven't found anything on him as of yet, only that someone puts his death year at 1899 in TX. Mattie Abigail died in 1919 in San Antonio, Bexar Co. TX.
Wiley Bishop and Mary Eliza McMullen and did have 12 children with the possibility of them losing at least a couple of them back then. I have found all 12 of them 2 at least being born in Carroll Co. TN where they first got married, then the family moved about 1844 to Hempstead Co. Arkansas and on about the year of 1858 they move to Red River, Sevier Co. Arkansas. There moves didn't stop there, in about 1860-1870 they pick up once again and move to Texas, this time to Hillsboro, Hill Co. TX and then to Brownville, Brown Co. TX. By 1900 after Wiley died on 11 Nov 1887 in Grant Co. NM Mary Eliza McMullen-Bishop moves in with her daughter Mary Elnora Bishop-Hill and her son in law Josiah Wilkins Hill into San Antonio, TX. That is where she (Mary Eliza McMullen-Bishop) died in 1901, she is however buried at Wooten Cemetery, Kimble Co. TX., and I can imagine that Wiley might be there as well, but no one from this family knows for sure if that is possible or not. So if someone is willing to go out to this cemetery and take a look for me and or talk to the cemetery people I would be grateful to know who exactly is there under the Bishop name because right now we are missing a little one by the name of Martha Jane Bishop who died in 1876 who is a twin to Martha Elizabeth Bishop.
