Mary Ann Smith was born in Davenport, Iowa, June 10, 1858 and departed this life August 11, 1950 at the age of 92 years, two months and one day.

At the age of 13 she came to Nebraska with her parents and brother Will, and later homesteaded on a farm three miles southwest of Ong. She was united in marriage to John W. Johnson April 2, 1878, and to this union seven children were born, five daughters and two sons, all living except one daughter, Mrs Charles Sugden, who passed away in 1930. Her brother, Will, and sister, Mrs Daisy Bankson, also, and a small brother and a sister preceded her in death.

In 1900 she and her husband moved to Ong and in October, 1914 her husband passed away. She continued to make her home in Ong until a few years ago when her health began to fail. She was a active member of the Ong Methodist Church and Aid Society.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs Elmer Gowen of Ong, and Mrs Clarence Fletcher of Meridian, Idaho; one brother, Frank of Oxnard, California; her five children, Wardie and Willard of Ong, Mrs Scott Cusacden of Omaha, Mrs Arthur Hughes of Hastings, and Mrs Ira Adams of Nelson, 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday August 14, 1950, at the Ong Methodist Church with the Rev J. W. Tomlinson in charge. Mrs Will Herrick and Mrs Oscar Danielson sang two numbers, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Asleep in Jesus." Mrs Herschel Gowen sang a solo, "There'll Be No Tears in Paradise." Mrs Ralph McCloughan was at the piano.

Pallbearers were Wayne Hughes, Loren Johnson, Dean and Vayden Adams, Hubert Johnson and Willis Johnson, all grandsons of Mrs Johnson.

Burial was made in the Ong cemetery.
