Louis Preston McChesney (LP) was the first son of Vernon Twiggs McChesney and Mary Elizabeth Lively. He was born in Wills Point, Texas where his father had a law firm. His father died when he was 9 years old, and his family moved to Texarkana, Arkansas when he was about 16 years old (1894).

LP married Minerva (Annie B) Hill, daughter of Rev. Preston Hay Hill and Minerva Annie [Yewell] Hill, when he was 20 years old (1898) and went into business for himself. He and his family moved to El Paso, Texas, where he joined the Masonic Lodge, and then to California, settling in La Jolla. While in La Jolla he became a member of the Kiwanis Club and helped to organize the Baptist Church there. During the Great Depression in 1929 they moved to Cardiff-by-the-Sea. There he joined the Rotary Club in Encinitas. Later was elected president of the group. He was elected to the San Dieguito Water District and soon became its president. LP worked for more water and better distribution as President of the board for over 20 years. He received many awards from both the Rotary and the San Dieguito Water District.

LP McChesney was an inventor and patented many devices among them the "Pronto Heater," (1917), a "Boiler with Thermos Heater" (1921), a "Cleanout Plug Means" (1945,) and the "Drink-Master," an automatic device for watering chickens in pens. This device proved lucrative to his business as well as serviceable and demanding to the poultry industry.

In 1954, he was cremated and his ashes are at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California. His motto was "All it really takes for business success is ability, lack of fear, and work." He possessed all of these. Louis Preston McChesney was a man of vision and industriousness.
