Tom is a Vietnam era veteran who moved to Arizona in 1976, following discharge from the U.S. Navy at Oak Harbor, Washington. He retired in 2002 from Honeywell, Inc. in Phoenix, where he worked for 20 years as a Quality Engineer. He spent the last two years of his retirement in Escondido, California.
Tom is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Norris Abbott; his brother, James (Becky) Abbott, of Arkansas; brother, Brady Camplain, of Louisiana; sister, Genevia Camplain of Texas and Abbott cousins; as well as the extended Norris family.
Between 1987 and 1997, Tom and Ruth hosted international exchange students. Tom and Ruth are surrogate grandparents to Valerie Elizabeth Jaramillo (17) of Mesa AZ; to Nina Jacqueline Fawcett (8) of Apache Junction AZ; and surrogate great-grandparents to Alexis Marie and Leila Nichole Currie of Queen Creek, AZ—all of whom will miss their beloved "Poppie."
A celebration of Tom's life will be held on Saturday, February 20 in the clubhouse at Citrus Garden Park in Escondido, CA, with interment at Oak Hill Memorial Park on Monday, February 22.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Gideon's International for purchase of scriptures (http://www. gideons.org), to ProLite racy (http://www.proliteracy.com), to the Elizabeth Hospice, or the American Cancer Society .
