b. Dalrymple Parish. Ayrshire, Scotland. son of John and Margaret (Templeton) Dempster. The family immigrated to the US 10 Aug 1841.

He m. 20 Aug 1858 in Fayettte County, Iowa to Emma Jane "Amy" Cramer.

A death record was not located for either William or Amy in Kendall County, Illinois.
