William Jasper Douglas was born 1 Nov 1859, near Spencer, Indiana, a son of John Levi and Polly Potter Douglas. William was a farmer, and later moved to Hindsboro. For many years before his death he could be seen sitting on the front porch of his Hindsboro home on Main Street. His daughter, Wilma, cared for him after the death of his wife. He was an avid tobacco chewer.
He married Mary Wright on 30 Apr 1890, at Tuscola. She was born 10Dec 1866, and daughter of Eli and Salome Caroline (Hall) Wright. Mary died 23 Jan 1937 in Oklahoma, but is buried in VanVoorhis Cemetery north of Hindsboro.
They had five children. Ralph born 18 May 1891, Hindsboro, married Ethel Hanks 23 Dec 1916, died 28 Jun 1978, buried Van Voorhis Cemetery.
Ray Eli born 25 Aug 1984, Hindsboro, and married Jessie Vandeventer on 7 Mar 1916, died 17 Nov 1979, buried Hugo Cemetery.
Elmer Ben Born 21 Aug 1896, Hindsboro, married Helen Lewis 13 Mar 1920, died 10 Aug 1952, buried Roselawn Cemetery north of Terre Haute, Indiana. He was a railroader and lived in St. Bernice, Indiana.
